JAMES MORGAN WALKER (or Morgan Walker), my 2nd-great grandfather, was born 5 Aug 1860 in Catoosa Co., Georgia, and died sometime after 1930 in Walker Co., Georgia (despite his headstone reading "1929," which several folks have told me is wrong). He is buried in Chattooga Baptist Church Cemetery in Walker Co., Georgia, near several of his relatives. I visited his grave awhile back upon learning that his newer headstone was in the wrong spot. At the time I was unable to locate his old headstone. Now that I know where his older stone is located, I will someday plan a return trip.
James' parents were Oliver Perry Walker (1821-1865), a Confederate soldier who died a P.O.W., and Martha M. Suttle (1824-1896). Both his parents were from Rutherford County, N.C.
James married LAURA HARRIS (1864-1920) and had ten children. Some say her middle name was "Emma" and some say her middle initial was "M." I've been unable to find any kind of documentation to settle the confusion. Although she has no grave marker, I've been told by another of James Walker's descendants that she is buried next to him in the same cemetery. They were once buried next to a cedar tree but the tree is now gone. She was informed by her grandmother Blanch Walker Young, one of James' daughters.
The children of James Morgan Walker and Laura Walker are:
1. Mary Fuller Walker (1883-1973)
2. Perry Nathan Walker (1885-1959) <<<< my great-grandfather
3. Hugh Springfield Walker (1888-1924)
4. Nettie Lee Walker (1891-1967)
5. Annie Blanch Walker (1893-1979)
6. Burse K. Walker (1895- )
7. Myrtle Elizabeth Walker (1898-1972)
8. James Suttle Walker (1900- )
9. Dora Belle Walker (1904- )
10. Laura Pearl Walker (1907-1976)
For a while I began researching what happened to all of James' children. I recently came in contact with a descendant of Mary Fuller Walker. I knew that she had married a Mance Nations, but did not know that she was buried in Lafayette Cemetery, not that far from where James Morgan is buried. My grandmother said that, growing up, they called her "Aunt Fuller."
Since I am a descendant of Perry Nathan Walker, everything I know of him I learned from my mother and grandmother (Perry's daughter). He married Callie Ocoee Dodson, and is buried in Charleston Community Cemetery in Charleston, Tennessee.
I learned very recently what happened to Hugh Springfield Walker. I knew that he died at an early age, but was unaware that he had actually been attacked and murdered (I don't know if the killer or killers were ever found). He left behind his wife, Cora Howard, and two daughters. Probably even more surprising to me was learning that he was buried in the same cemetery as James Morgan. When I visited James' cemetery, I only found his newer headstone... I never saw Hugh's marker, or thought to try and find it.
Nettie Lee Walker married a McConnel, and is buried close to her brother Perry in Charleston Community Cemetery, Charleston TN. My grandmother knew her well while growing up.
Annie Blanch Walker married Jess E. Young and is buried in the same cemetery as James Morgan, in the newer part of Chattooga Baptist Church Cemetery next to her husband.

I have no idea where Burse K. Walker is buried, and I really should know by now. One of his grandson's Wilburn Walker, who lives in Florida, still visits my grandmother from time to time. He has researched the Walker family extensively, and I've been told by several people that I need to meet him someday and compare notes. To the right is a copy of a photo he gave to my grandmother. Burse married a woman named "Rosie May," and I do not know her maiden name.
Myrtle Elizabeth Walker married Coleman Lipham, and is buried in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rome, Georgia.
James Suttle Walker married a "Bonnie" (maiden name unknown), and sometimes went by "Suttle" according to census records. I do not know where he is buried.
I have almost no information on Dora Belle Walker.
Laura Pearl Walker stayed in or around the Bradley County, TN area, and also knew my grandmother well. I've been told that she is buried in Charleston, TN, but to date have been unable to locate her headstone.
One of my goals for starting this blog was to maybe find long-lost cousins, people who share a common ancestor that might be able to fill in the gaps, so to speak. Maybe you just recently discovered that James Morgan Walker is your ancestor as well.... if so, I'd love to hear from you.

Hi, my name is Raymond Anthony Nation. I go by Tony. I am the great grandson of Mary Fuller Walker. Mary's daughter, Ruthie Lee Nations was my grandmother on my father's side. I have just recently became more interested in finding out about our family's heritage. I knew many of the people in this photograph, especially in my earlier years as I am 59 years old now. Since I just got up a few minutes ago and haven't had all of my coffee that's as far as my brain will go right now. I would love to hear from you. God bless.

There's a Google Voice translation typo on my last name. It should say "Nations"!
